Primary Principals

The following 4 primary principals are pivotal in the effective management of health and safety on our sites:
  1. CONTROL
  2. CO-OPERATION
  3. COMMUNICATION
  4. COMPETENCE

Our commitment to these principals ensures that Working Environments continue to lead the way across our industry regarding all health and safety issues.

Health and Safety Management System

Working Environments are committed to achieving our own target of managing the safety of sites in our industry. As an ‘Investor in People’ we recognise that the single most important attribute necessary to achieve this goal is our team’s ownership of their individual responsibilities regarding health and safety.

We employ MSafe to act as independent health and safety advisors providing continual specialist support for our company, carrying out unscheduled monthly health and safety reviews and reporting their findings to our Board of Directors as part of the on-going assessment improvement cycle described below.

Training

As a Company we provide all our staff with the necessary training and equipment to ensure our own safety at work, as well as the safety of those around them. To this end, every Working Environments operative from Labourer to Director are CSCS trained and certified in the relevant skills demanded by their role.
  • 81 safety training days undertaken (2006 fiscal year)
  • 71 safety training days undertaken (2007 fiscal year)

Every Working Environments employee is also Red Cross trained in basic first aid. The primary level of training while important to us as a Company only represents a starting point for our philosophy of continuing personal development.

Each year Working Environments invest in providing specific training in health & safety related issues for our Site Managers and Project Managers. We regard this ongoing training as an essential an integral part to our health and safety development.

Planning and Monitoring

Our health and safety management system is carefully implemented and stringently adhered to by our site management teams.

Attention to detail ensures that our method statements and risk assessments are not only task specific, but that they also combine consideration of practicalities for working on site without compromising the safety and well-being of our site operatives and those working around them.

Our ‘no blame’ culture encourages all site operatives to monitor the safety of those around them on site and insists that all health and safety issues are dealt with immediately as a matter of paramount importance. This non-adversarial philosophy makes it possible to collect and monitor accurate health and safety performance statistics from our sites which enable us to review and improve our on-going performance as a Company. These statistics are recorded in the first instance by the careful undertaking of fast and accurate incident investigations.

All accidents and near misses are avoidable. We monitor our performance and treat each line in the accident book as a challenge for us to ensure that we learn from our mistakes as well as the mistakes of those around us to prevent accidents in the future. We recognise the need for a team approach to health and safety and look forward to the opportunity of working together with you to make our sites the safest in the industry.
