Established in 1974Working Environments Ltd commenced trading as a mechanical services contractor in 1974. Prior to that date the Company had been involved in the supply and distribution of safety equipment and carrying out remedial noise control projects. The on-site acoustic work required specialist skills such as pipefitters, refrigeration engineers, sheet metal workers and steel fabricators. The type of work being handled tended to be spasmodic and left the workforce with periods of low activity. This instigated the Company's move to mechanical services, the aim being to utilise the surplus labour that was available on the small works and maintenance. It was only some six months later a major defence contractor placed an order with the Company that demanded 100% of the Company's capacity be utilised on a mechanical services installation thus changing the profile of the Company substantially. In an effort to try and control our own destiny, the Company worked through this period endeavouring not to expand too quickly, knowing that Client-led expansion is not always a good base for Company development.Steady GrowthThe Company has continued to grow steadily, the total workforce now being some 53 personnel with a turnover of £20.6 million (2008-2009). The development has necessitated a number of changes, including an office move from Lyndhurst to central Southampton and then to Millbrook Trading Estate where we now occupy a 4,500m² (16,200ft²) site. The Company's operation has also developed although we still pursue the traditional principle of engineers maintaining a very close contact with the Client. We believe that the Client now has an improved service over our early years as the management structure is fashioned in such a way as to ensure that all employees within our organisation have the Clients' interest at heart. Expanded ServicesAlso included within our organisation is in-house ductwork fabrication, pipework prefabrication, refrigeration, electrical, and controls. Working Environments Ltd has taken a leading role in the monitoring and control of refrigerant gases and the introduction of alternative gases as recommended by the Institute of Refrigeration. It is our belief that discerning Clients will always require the services of a professionally qualified enthusiastic and motivated team of mechanical and electrical services engineers. The Future...Working Environments Ltd will maintain its standards while expanding at a rate that can be controlled and will also stabilise and enhance our position in the market place. To provide further expansion, the Company has created a regional office to cover the Thames Valley and South London. This office is staffed with engineers and managers who are long term employees. Consequently we will be able to guarantee that our standard of excellence and service will be maintained. We also have plans to open a further 5 regional offices. The Company remains true to its founding principles. Projects undertaken vary in value and location; they may be for large or small enterprises. However you will always benefit from the same deeply-engrained values in all aspects of what we do: an absolute commitment to quality of work and performance. |
